Creating Expressive Rug Pads

With the addition of a rug pad, that friction and wear and tear is slowed down, thus extending the life of your rug. Obviously this is like carpet rug pads. When it comes down to it, the rug pad that is used is just as important as what you see on the surface. A rug pad cushions your rug and acts as a buffer, keeping it from being constantly smashed.
Adding a rug pad under any area rug will increase the comfort that area rug provides. Even if you have a hand knotted rug with a high number of knots per square inch and have difficultly seeing the holes, they are there. But has little, or nothing, to do with carpet rug pads usually. After all, once your rug is in place there is no possible way to determine with 100 percent accuracy as to if the right pad was used.
Rug pads protect the carpet underneath. A rug pad helps your rug “stick” to the floor, keeping it in place, and making it safer for everyone. This is similar to felt padding frequently. With the proper pad you can be rest assured that the rug is going to lay as it should.
This is an extra bonus for those of us that are especially sensitive to these types of bacteria and it’s nice to know that the rug pads in our home prevent bacteria even if we aren’t especially sensitive. There are different rug pads for hard surfaces such as ceramic or hardwood, for various types of carpets, and for indoor or outdoor use. As you can imagine, when you are walking on a rug with a pad underneath it will be much more comfortable.
Rug pads reduce slippage. You don’t want the rug pad to show, so it should be cut to be at least 1/2″ smaller all the way around. You want to make sure that you get a rug pad that is of high quality, and of course, one that is known to get the job done. Rug pads come in all shapes and sizes and most can be sized with a pair of household scissors.
